VetusGUI 0.1.0 beta 1 -- Linux x64
================================

Target: Linux Mint 22.x / Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, 64-bit Intel/AMD (amd64).
Not intended for ARM, older Mint/Ubuntu, or other Linux distributions.
Built/tested on Mint 22.3 Xfce. Ubuntu 24.04 is the dependency target,
not a separately tested installation. This is a forum testing release.

INSTALL
Download vetusgui_0.1.0~beta1_amd64.deb. In its download folder run:

  sudo apt install ./vetusgui_0.1.0~beta1_amd64.deb

Internet access may be needed to install Qt/runtime dependencies.
No compiler, Visual Studio, or source checkout is needed.
Launch VetusGUI from the application menu, or type:

  vetusgui

USB ACCESS
Plug in Vetus and select its /dev/ttyACM* or /dev/ttyUSB* port in the app.
If permission is denied, run:

  sudo usermod -aG dialout "$USER"

Then log out of the desktop and log back in before launching VetusGUI.
Do not run the application as root. In a VM, pass the USB device through
to Linux first. Close other applications using the port.
The installer does not change user groups, USB rules or PCB contents.

UPDATE / REMOVE
Close VetusGUI before installing a newer package with the same apt command.
To uninstall:

  sudo apt remove vetusgui

Your locally saved .chip, font and image files are not removed.

BETA NOTES
Back up valuable PCB content and keep original source files before testing.
Chip readback cannot recover original comments or variable names.
Save/delete operations change PCB storage; settings changes apply immediately.
After an interrupted write, inspect the PCB before retrying.
Image Delete remains disabled, matching the unfinished reference feature.
Image Save uses the next slot chosen by firmware, not the highlighted slot.
Automated tests use simulated writes; they do not prove electrical test safety.
Only run chip tests appropriate for your hardware.

Please report: beta version, Linux version, PCB firmware version, exact steps,
expected/actual behavior and screenshots/status messages. Keep private data
out of reports. This package is unsigned; compare the supplied SHA256 checksum
with a trusted forum download listing if available.

Qt and other runtime libraries are installed from your distribution's packages,
not bundled here. Their license/copyright notices remain in /usr/share/doc.
